Volunteer at the Beach
All beaches are part of the Chicago Park District system. See volunteer opportunities with the Chicago Park District.
Adopt a Beach
The Chicago Park District’s Beach Ambassador Program educates the public on understanding the water quality and beach monitoring program and reducing beach contamination. The Chicago Park District developed the Beach Ambassadors program in partnership with environmental educators.
Beach Ambassadors duties include
- Staffing information table and interacting directly with beach-goers.
- Working with Chicago Park District day camps to educate children about beach health and beach water quality.
- Overseeing fun and interactive activities to teach kids about beach health and water quality. Most of these programs reach day campers on beach field trips through the Nature Oasis program.
- Reaching out to sport and social clubs, natural area stewards and birders, golf course patrons and other who use the beaches and parkland around the beaches.
Look for beach ambassadors in bright blue shirts during the swim season. They’ll be happy to share information on beach water quality and what you can do to keep our beaches clean.
